My Story

Taal Brit English School was founded by me, Clara Nicoll, a British English teacher from Hertfordshire, in the UK. After studying Biology and genetics at University, I worked in international publishing for many years. 

I became an English trainer when I moved to the Netherlands in my late thirties. It was actually my Dutch teacher who gave me the idea to become a language trainer as she had so many enquiries into English lessons; she realised that there was a gap in the market. I resisted for a long time but she was right - teaching English is a fantastic job! She also says I was one of her star pupils, which is very kind of her, but the credit goes to her for giving me a passion for language.

I now teach adults and teenagers of all backgrounds and levels, in many different industries. Years of international travel in the publishing world means I have a wealth of experience when it comes to business in different countries and cultures which I'm happy to share with my students. 

I live in Hoorn, North Holland, with my British husband and children. I'm a keen painter, boxer and eater of bitterballen.
